I don’t have a precise understanding of the technological process involved in creating a new dress, and even less so about how that process was carried out a century ago. However, I can certainly imagine it, leaving it up to the viewer to agree or disagree with my vision.
To me, the creation process likely began from the inside and then built outward, layer by layer. After all, we’re discussing haute couture here, not mass production. In those days, no respectable person would consider buying clothes from a ready-to-wear store; it was hard for people to comprehend how one could wear garments designed for the masses.
But times have changed. Now, there are only a handful of tailors left. Most people are content to wear the same clothing as everyone else. Such is the nature of our times—progress and evolution at work.
