A casual viewer might see this painting’s surface image and simply be struck by the atmosphere and the curiosity of a beautiful instrument standing alone in the harsh cold. They might wonder how it came to be there, and maybe they’d find it a little sad, a little lonely.

But, as always, Igor Shulman’s enormous skill and compassionate inner eye resonate with me on a deeper level. When I look at this painting, I know without a doubt that the abandoned piano still makes music when the wind blows. And I’m certain that, if only I can catch it at just the right time, I’ll see the wind twist itself into the shapes of all the people whose lives that piano has touched. Their spirits will sit on the bench and once more bring forth the music that brought them such joy.

I can’t express how much I love this painting…it captures me every time I look at it. And I can’t express how easy it was to commission an original work from Igor. From creative ideas, to sketches, to delivery of the finished painting, Igor was exceptionally professional. He kept in constant contact and worked quickly. Don’t hesitate if you’re considering commissioning a piece!

Shulmans Bilder haben mich sofort in ihren Bann gezogen, als ich diese zum ersten Mal sah. Bis heute haben sie keinen Deut dieser Faszination verloren.

Seine Bilder sind wie ein Film, der läuft, für einen Moment stehen bleibt, um dann weiterzulaufen. Beim einen Bild weiß man, dieser Film hat vor kurzem erst begonnen und bei einem anderen Bild, daß er bald zu Ende sein wird und es treibt dem sensiblen Menschen die Tränen in die Augen. Jedes seiner Bilder erzählt eine Geschichte, viele einen Roman, ein ganzes Leben. Diese erzählerische Komponente ist es, die die Faszination seiner Bilder ausmacht. Die Intensität seiner Bildsprache ruft im Betrachter sofort ein Gefühl hervor, wie es sonst nur Gerüche vermögen.

Jedes Bild wirft sofort Fragen auf. Wie lange haben die beiden sich nicht gesehen ? Wird die Freundschaft der kleinen Mädchen halten ? Welche Nachricht hat der junge Mann gerade erfahren, daß er solche Kapriolen schlägt ? Wie viele Tage der Liebe mögen diesem älteren Pärchen noch beschert sein, was alles mögen sie in ihrem Leben schon zusammen bewältigt haben ? Das Mädchen, das die Hände vors Gesicht schlägt, was mag es Schreckliches erlebt haben ?

Kaum einer versteht es so meisterhaft, wie Shulman, ein Gefühl in einem Bild zum Ausdruck zu bringen: Die Freude des Jungen auf der Schaukel, des Mädchens, das an der Teppichstange rumturnt. Die Verzweiflung der am Boden kauernden Frau. Die Frau, die eine Zigarette raucht und in ihrer Mimik erkennt man, es ist die Zigarette danach und kommt sich ein wenig vor, wie ein Voyeur.

Und dann sind da Bilder, verschwommene Erinnerungen, oft an die Kindheit und wir glauben unsere eigenen Erinnerungen vor Augen zu haben.

Bei Shulman sind es meistens die Männer und Jungs, die sich in der Bewegung des Körpers erleben, die schaukeln, springen, tanzen, skaten. Die Frauen sehen wir mehr in ihrem seelischen Erleben, oft verzweifelt, verlassend, fortgehend, für sich alleine nackt, in ihrer Zerbrechlichkeit und Stärke. Viele, einen Koffer tragend, eine Tasche, einen Rollkoffer hinter sich herziehend, einen Lebensabschnitt hinter sich lassend und trotzig und voller Hoffnung einem neuen Leben entgegengehend.

Und dann sind da die Momente, wo sich Mann und Frau treffen, meistens dargestellt in einem Kuß, oft im Aufbruch begriffen. Bei vielen dieser Begegnungen ahnen wir, es ist nur flüchtig, ein kurzer, intensiver Augenblick des Glücks.

Seine Akte zeigen nie nur die reine Nacktheit des Körpers, vielmehr zeigen Sie die unschuldige Nacktheit der Seele und sind daher von einer sanften, aber intensiven Intimität.

Tiere sind bei Shulman oft zu sehen und immer in Ihrer liebevollen Beziehung zum Menschen und umgekehrt. So scheinen die Tiere dem Menschen die einzige treue Konstante zu sein, wenn die anderen Menschen längst nicht mehr da sind.

Die Bilder von Shulman erscheinen einem, rein äußerlich, wie aus einer anderen Zeit, vor allem die Alltagsszenen. Doch sind sie uns sehr nah, denn die wesentlichen Gefühle des Menschen, wie Liebe, Schmerz, Trauer, Trennung, Angst sind zu allen Zeiten dieselben, so, wie auch die Stationen des Lebens mit Kindheit, Altsein und dem was dazwischen ist.

Was Shulmans Bilder uns so nah sein läßt ist, daß da ein Künstler zu sein scheint, dem es nicht darum geht, seine innersten Gefühle zum Ausdruck zu bringen, sondern vielmehr die Gefühle der anderen, der Menschen und Tiere, die er voller Liebe und Mitgefühl betrachtet. Hier ist nicht einer, der um sich selbst so schnell wirbelt, daß er die Außenwelt gar nicht mehr wahrnimmt. Nein, hier scheint einer zu sein, der ganz ruhig steht und seinen mitfühlenden und offenen Blick nach außen richtet, zu den Menschen und den Tieren.

Shulman’s paintings immediately captivated me when I first saw them. To this day, they have not lost any of that fascination.

His paintings are like a film that runs, pauses for a moment, and then continues. In one painting, you know this film has just started, and in another, you sense it’s about to end, bringing tears to sensitive souls. Each of his paintings tells a story, many a novel, an entire life. This narrative component is what makes his paintings so captivating. The intensity of his imagery evokes feelings in the viewer, akin to the power of scents.

Each painting raises immediate questions. How long have the two not seen each other? Will the friendship of the little girls endure? What news did the young man just receive to make him react this way? How many days of love might the older couple still have ahead, and what trials have they faced together? The girl covering her face with her hands, what terrible experience might she have lived through?

Few master the art, as Shulman does, of expressing a feeling within a painting: the joy of the boy on the swing, the girl playing on the carpet pole. The despair of the crouching woman on the ground. The woman smoking a cigarette, her expression indicating it’s the one after, making her feel a bit like a voyeur.

Then there are the images, blurred memories, often from childhood, as if our own recollections are right before our eyes.

With Shulman, it’s often the men and boys who experience the movement of their bodies, swinging, jumping, dancing, skating. Women are often depicted in their emotional experiences, often in desperation, leaving, departing, standing alone in their vulnerability and strength. Many carry a suitcase, a bag, a rolling suitcase, leaving behind a phase of life and defiantly, hopefully, heading towards a new one.

Then come the moments when man and woman meet, usually portrayed in a kiss, often in departure. With many of these encounters, we sense their fleeting nature, a brief and intense moment of happiness.

His nudes never show only the physical nakedness of the body, but rather the innocent nakedness of the soul, displaying a gentle yet intense intimacy.

Animals are often present in Shulman’s works, always in their loving relationship with humans and vice versa. The animals seem to be humanity’s sole faithful constant when other people are no longer around.

Shulman’s paintings may outwardly appear from another time, especially the everyday scenes. Yet, they are close to us, for the essential human emotions such as love, pain, sorrow, separation, and fear remain the same throughout time, just as life’s stages of childhood, old age, and everything in between.

What brings Shulman’s paintings so close to us is the sense that he’s an artist who isn’t solely focused on expressing his innermost feelings, but rather the feelings of others – people and animals – which he observes with love and compassion. He doesn’t whirl around himself so fast that he loses touch with the outside world. Instead, he stands calmly, directing his compassionate and open gaze outward, towards people and animals.

A lot of raw canvas on this, but impressive painting exactly as described. Hard to wrap the canvas given it’s odd size, but I love Igor’s work.

I came back from spending my birthday at my favorite hotel in Paris and I asked Igor to paint a photo of me taken at the hotel. He painted the most beautiful image capturing my most magical place. Igor is an exquisite artist!!! And he works so fast! I would definitely commission another painting from him

These paintings…I hardly know how to describe the impact they have on me. Igor Shulman is so skilled at delivering atmosphere, that even if all you do is look at the surface image, you feel it. And if you live in a cold climate, you immediately recognize those feelings. But for me, the real impact lies in the underlying sense of disconnection. I know many people see the word “disconnection” as a negative, but I don’t. To me, it’s necessary. With all of the manufactured outrage and hysteria surrounding modern life, there are times I crave that disconnection. There’s a kind of peace in it. Anyway, thank you, Igor. Your art takes me exactly where I need to be. There are painters who can observe life and depict it in such a manner that the full range of emotions, moods, sensations, and even odours pervade the entire canvas. You look at the photo – and in seconds you are engulfed in the feelings of the person shown, his entire life or moment of life becomes so evident, as if this portion of life is yours as well, even emotions arrive in the body. And each image tells its own narrative right away. This is how I saw Igor Andrianov’s works.

If I could give 10 stars I would. We commissioned a painting from Igor and he responded quickly to every question we asked. He made sketches to make sure that was what we wanted. Wandering the streets of Prague I happened on a compelling painting displayed outward from a small gallery. I passed it by first at a distance and then again up close when the maze of streets serendipitously brought me back. Drawn in for a closer look to find out about the artist I found the gallery was wonderful and full of interesting scenes from the city I was exploring. I was strongly drawn to the painting hung on the door and at my request the gallery attendant reached out to the artist to broker a sale. I ended up bringing home my first original artist painting and have been enjoying the piece every day since in my home. Igor Shulman creates beautiful human forms and everyone visiting Prague should take a moment to experience his work in person.

I consider myself very lucky to have come across Igor’s work on an art website about four years ago. I ended up buying four pictures at the time and was pleased with them all. As we prepared to move to a bigger house, I immediately looked online again to my favourite artist. This time, I had direct contact with Igor which was fantastic and beneficial for us both.

Igor was easy to deal with and so helpful in working with me to get the pictures from Prague to a small island close to the UK.

His work is gorgeous, full of life, colour and with each canvas having its own special story. Could not be happier and would totally recommend.

This Artist Is Blessed With Talent Just Wow!

On a recent trip to Prague, I found myself captivated by two totally different paintings. In two different small art shoppes. Both were done, unbeknownst to me then, by Igor Shulman. I was captured by this artist’s work. I had to learn more.

I am lucky enough to have a wonderful person in my life that subsequently contacted that studio in Prague, and surprised me with the gift of one of those paintings I had seen on that trip.

Since then, I have purchased an additional painting from Igor Shulman. I am fascinated by his work. I have been in correspondence with him over his artwork. A fan of a particular artist gets to converse with the talent who created it! How wonderful! I couldn’t ask for anything more! Thank you Igor for that. And for creating these masterpieces that I cherish.

Love this piece. I was quite nervous to make this purchase as I have never had a painting delivered in a tube before. I was afraid of oil paint cracking. It arrived safe and sound. My framing shop informed me that Mr. Shulman uses top quality canvas which prevents damage from rolling and it was rolled properly (paint on the outside). I couldn’t be happier. Ross Calgary, Canada

Arrived in good condition rolled into hard tube ready for stretching and framing. Very pleased.

Good communication by Igor and i love the painting. My only concern was that the tube the painting was shipped in did not have the typical end caps. It was well sealed by shipping tape but the canvas and painting was every so slightly moist when opened. No visual damage and I understand that it takes time for oil paints to cure but thought end caps might have been safer. Igor even sent a smaller print as a bonus which was nice.
